ADVISORY: Tesla Rate Limiting Impacting App Functionality - October 2024

We are aware of a current issue affecting all users of our app due to a change in Tesla’s API rate-limiting policy. Recently, Tesla has begun enforcing strict rate limits, which has unfortunately rendered the app nonfunctional unless the vehicle is manually woken up by other means.

Temporary Workaround:

To continue using the app, you can manually wake up your Tesla vehicle by using the official Tesla app. Once the vehicle is awake, our app should function as expected. We understand that this is not an ideal solution, but it is the only available workaround at this time.

Why is This Happening?

This issue stems from Tesla’s decision to enforce rate limits for all third-party applications, without providing a paid alternative to access higher API limits. You can view the current rate limits here.

Unfortunately, this is entirely beyond our control, and it is impacting all third-party Tesla applications. We encourage users to direct any frustrations to Tesla, as we have no way to bypass or resolve these restrictions.

Update Coming Soon:

We are actively working on an update to the app that will attempt to function within these rate limits. While this update won’t be able to circumvent Tesla’s restrictions, it will implement optimizations that allow the app to continue operating, though this will come at the cost of some usability for you, the user. The experience may be less seamless than before, but we hope this update will at least provide some level of continued functionality until Tesla offers a more permanent solution.
